Greensboro, North Carolina is home to both Friends Homes at Guilford and Friends Homes West. Located in the center of the state, in an area known as the Piedmont, Greensboro has one of the largest concentrations of Quakers in the country. You'll enjoy beautiful changing seasons and mild winters. The location near Guilford College, an outstanding liberal arts Quaker college founded in 1837, means residents can take advantage of classes, cultural events and concerts, including the annual Eastern Music Festival. Full time activity directors plan daily programs and frequent trips. Gardening areas and nature trails are conveniently located for your enjoyment. Your life-style can be as active or as relaxed as you please while you are surrounded by an atmosphere of friendship, comfort, and security. Security comes from knowing on-site quality health care is available 24 hours a day. Friends Homes at Guilford and Friends Homes West are continuing care retirement communities offering three levels of care on a fee-for-service basis. For independent living, you can choose from studio, one and two bedroom apartments or cottages. The Assisted Living Units offer assistance with daily tasks for residents, and the Nursing Units provide intermediate and skilled care.
Friends Homes, Inc. was founded by the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of the Society of Friends in 1958 to minister to the needs of an aging population. The first apartments opened in 1968 at Friends Homes at Guilford. Through the years, that facility has expanded to serve a growing senior population, and the waiting period for admission has become increasingly longer. In 1988, the trustees authorized building a second facility, Friends Homes West. In 1998, Friends Homes, Inc., celebrated 30 years of continuous service to senior adults.
It is the mission of Friends Homes, Inc., to establish and operate continuing care retirement communities in accordance with the principles of the Religious Society of Friends. These principles require that our communities provide, at reasonable cost, an environment which fosters independence and a sense of wholeness, health, and security so that each resident may realize his or her full potential. In doing so we facilitate the basic Quaker principle that "there is God in every person," meaning that everyone has worth and value. Through continuous improvement and expansion, the organization will provide affordable services to the aged and support to the community at large. We accept the responsibility to promote consistent quality care while providing a HOME for our residents.
